Electronics Workshop with Mitch Altman and Jimmie P Rodgers

The Irish Robotics Club and TOG.ie proudly present a Mitch Altman electronics workshop in the Science gallery on the 23rd of March (6pm-9pm).  Mitch is the brains behind Cornfield Electronics and one of the co-founders of Noisebridge hackerspace in San Francisco. Mitch has taught thousands of people to solder travelling all around with his famous workshops and sharing his love of electronics.

If you have ever had any curiosity about making something with electronics, then please join us. Anyone and everyone can learn to make cool things. And it’s fun. And easy! You can learn to make something cool with electronics in one workshop, and take your cool project home with you!

Mitch Altman’s expert instruction is Free, we only got to reimburse him for the materials we use (20 euro). There will be plenty of cool kits available to build (and take home), including:

  • TV-B-Gone (turn off TVs in public places!)
  • Brain Machine (Meditate, Hallucinate, and Trip Out!)
  • LEDcube (cool cube of blinky lights!)
  • Mignonette Game (play fun games!)
  • Trippy RGB Waves (interactive colored blinky lights!)
  • MiniPOV (more cool blinky lights!)
  • MintyBoost (charge your USB enabled gadgets!)

and for the more advanced:
Microcontroller programmers, Arduino clones and more.

This workshop is guaranteed to sell out super quick! You have been warned :)

Upcoming Events: Make Night & Evening of Robots

Loads of great events coming up in February! First off there is a “Make Night” in the Science Gallery on Thursday the 11th of February 6pm to 8pm. This is at slightly different time than mentioned in previous posts (as it clashed with Science Gallery re-opening party).

The idea of a “Make Night” is simple – come along to the Science Gallery and make ANYTHING you like, in the company of other “makers” doing the same. Share ideas, materials and tools. Show off you projects and from learn the experience of others. Drink Italian coffee and talk to friendly creative people. Engineers, artists, jam makers, glue and glitter experts are all welcome. Pick a project, get your materials together and join in the fun. Still not clear? Check out the 5 minute ignite talk about them here.

It’s also going to be an Irish Robotics Club meeting, with testing of the robots we are sending to Robot Challenge 2010 in full swing, so watch out for rogue speedy robots at your feet!

Admission free.

The very next day (12th of February) there will be an “Evening of Robots” being held in collaboration with our friends at TOG. This is on in their space on Arran quay. It’s part of a series of events they are running for Engineering Week, which are open to the public. Well worth checking out!

One more thing,  world of robots on at BT Young Scientist Exhibition at the moment.  Looks like fun!
